Del Monte was an only child of Italian ancestry and at an early age held a love for singing, dancing and music. She moved to Hollywood after graduating from high school in 1950 to pursue an acting career.

While in Hollywood, Del Monte posed for photographers Bruno Bernard and Zoe Mozert. She was happy that the work paid well ($50.00 per hour) but was hesitant at first to pose in the nude. Bernard had sold some of her photos to the Baumgarth Calendar Company in Melrose Park, Illinois, who in turn sold them to a young magazine publisher named Hugh Hefner.

Known as Marilyn Waltz, she was Playboy ’s Playmate of the Month in the February 1954, April 1954 and April 1955 issues. She was the first of two women to become a three-time Playmate. However for the first of her Playboy appearances, Marilyn was billed as Margaret Scott. For many years thereafter, many assumed that Marilyn and Margaret actually were two different people. It wasn’t until the mid 1990s that the two were revealed to be the same person.

While looking through photos in preparation for 1996’s The Playmate Book, Hugh Hefner noticed stark similarities between the two models. He speculated in the book about this: “I only noticed the resemblance as the photos were being assembled for the book [Hefner had purchased both images from Baumgarth calendar company] and that Margaret Scott’s name doesn’t appear in lists of pinup models active in the period. Nor do any of the photographers recall a model with that name.” So she co-held the three-time appearance record in secret for 42 years. Finally Marilyn notified Playboy that she in fact was Margaret Scott.

Harrison is the first official Playmate of the Month, having first appeared in the magazine in its January 1954 issue. Like Monroe, her photo was purchased from the John Baumgarth Company, which specialized in pin-up calendars. Harrison returned as a Playmate in the June 1954 issue.
